The Laboratory for Performance Evaluation of Washing Machines (MAQLAV) was created based on a request from Eletrobras to meet the requirements of Law No. 10,295 of October 17, 2001, which establishes the National Policy for the Conservation and Rational Use of Energy. The MAQLAV is equipped to evaluate the performance of automatic and semi-automatic washing machines, involving energy consumption, water consumption, determination of washing efficiency and water extraction according to the Brazilian Labeling Program (PBE) and the National Conservation Program of Electric Power (Procel).
Located in the Fundão Unit, the MAQLAV is a technical reference of the partnership signed by Eletrobras, the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (Inmetro) and Cepel for the execution of Procel seal programs and the National Label for Energy Conservation in clothes washing machines. The laboratory participates in the elaboration of regulations and technical standards for the sector, besides the provision of services and support to the research. It also participates in the development of test methodologies. It maintains an interlaboratory comparison program with national institutions.
The laboratory is qualified to perform various tests and technological services in washing machines, such as:
• assessment of energy consumption
• determination of water consumption
• determination of washing efficiency
• assessment of water extraction capacity
The MAQLAV has an Electrolux Wascator reference washer model FOM 71 CLS; washing machines for conditioning loads; calibrated colorimeter; and integrated digital system for acquisition of test data. It has the capacity to evaluate automatic and semiautomatic washing machines in the voltages of 127V and 220V.
